Ever Wonder How Fortune Cookies are Made?

So, I have a good friend by the name of Herm, who wanders around aimlessly shooting San Francisco, he's far from being a hitman, but he's more like a photographer. He is currently in the process of working on his new photog website: Coco Photo by Herm Pugay

Enjoy theses flicks from the SF Love Fest Album by Herm:

Anyway, back to my point.....

He stumbled upon Chinatown today only to find the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory on Ross Alley in Chinatown! It has been around since 1962 that's older than me! But it's great to see them still around and operating the same old fashioned way.

The process seems quite simple, but I am sure it is a very tedious job. The fortune cookie itself is made by a machine until fully cooked then placed on the conveyor belt, and it looks like a flat and round pankcake. Then, it is folded by hand over some kind of wire rod (which is located above her hands by the conveyor belt). During the folding process, she places the fortune into the cookie. The fortune is pre-printed via a machine as well.

According to Herm, the flat rejects go in one can, while the pretty, folded ones go into another can.

So, now my question is....Is that a Garbage Can? :) Leave it up to my OCD.

I am sure you can read all about it on Yelp! But this sounds like the place to go to in SF!!
